Building a Visual Vocabulary, One Symbol at a Time

Every painting in Songs of the Unbroken carries 3–9 symbols drawn from a vocabulary of 22+. The spiral. The broken line. The upward arrow. The palm stroke. Each one earned its place through repetition and restraint.

The symbols are not decoration. They are not accents to make the painting look more interesting. They are a language — and like any language, they have rules. The upward arrow always means aspiration. The wave line always means emotional rhythm. The triangle always means stability.

A collector who learns the vocabulary can read any painting in the series. They can stand in front of a piece and decode what's happening — where the hope lives, where the memory sits, where the journey began. That's not interpretation. That's literacy.
